My obsession with Osea continues! Check out their Labor Day offer for a free mask~

masks-lifestyle-1-extended

Osea is one of my favorite non-toxic vegan skincare companies, and they were kind enough to send me some more products to sample on account of their Labor Day promotion kicking off!

I just finished a bath session with their white algae mask (my fav! I have reviewed it before) and my skin is very happy with the results. I followed the mask with their sea vitamin boost and the hyaluronic sea serum for moisturizing. Then I took a nap and happily drifted away into dreamland while my skin repaired itself.

EVXO x The Plantbased Jetsetter

IMG_4860.JPG

So EVXO was good enough to send me some vegan, cruelty free makeup to try, and I am OBSESSED.

This makeup is now a staple in my makeup bag and travels with me everywhere. I was given brow pomade, two creamy lipsticks, and the best foundation ever (which subsequently smells like some sort of delicious cookie) to try.

Here are a few looks I tried with these products; I found that they all applied quite even and smooth; the brow pomade took a few applications to get right because my brows are light, but that was mostly user error from me not using the right brush.

Check out my looks and go pick up these products – I couldn’t give a more glowing (see what I did there) recommendation!!

Foundation color: Bisque
Lipsticks: Temptress and Coral Kisses
Brow Pomade: Light

The Plantbased Jetsetter x Groceries Apparel

I had the pleasure of being gifted a t-shirt from the brand Groceries Apparel, and I’m delighted with it!

Their clothing is made in the USA, it is Monsanto free with no pesticides involved, and sooo soft, made of 100% cotton!

The shirt is great to lounge around in (as you see me doing here), paired with a handmade lingerie set from Cantiq Los Angeles, or one could dress it up with some accessories and have a great night out.

Check out this great brand!

Review – Vegan Cuts Beauty Box!

IMG_2739

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today I am reviewing one of Vegan Cuts’ monthly beauty boxes – and let me tell you, this was no hardship.

I used to get their monthly boxes, and to be honest, I had tapered off a while back after amassing a small army of teeny-tiny beauty oil samples and single serving wipes.

It looks like they rethought their strategy, however, because this loot was choice, and I’m delighted with the contents.

  1. Terre mère blush brush – The crown jewel in this loot for me – I am always delighted to receive new cruelty free, vegan brushes, and this one is soft, gentle on the face, and lovely to look at!
  2. everclēn facial toner – A full sized toner!? Someone pinch me. Toner is the beauty product that I go through the most, and I am picky about the toners I put on my face. This fragrance free beauty was just the ticket. I am still using it and I love the results!
  3. Medusa’s Makeup bronzer – This bronzer is a little dark for me, so I have to blend vigorously and use it in a more strategic way. It is perfect for light contouring, though! I used the blush brush in tandem with this bronzer and I wasn’t mad at the results.
  4. The Granola Goat face serum – I was bummed that there was so little of this serum (I get it, serum is expensive!) simply because I loved it so much! There are a lot of premium oils in here, including red raspberry seed oil, sea buckthorn berry oil,
Frankincense, helichrysum, lavender, myrrh, rose, and sandalwood essential oils as well. I am considering grabbing a full size because my face wants more!
  5. Molly Rose Balms Exfoliating body scrub in grapefruit basil – This is much more reminiscent of my past Vegan Cuts boxes, size-wise. The scrub is lovely, but I hate these sample sizes! I would much rather cut out two sample sizes for one full size item I can enjoy and really try out. That said, the scrub is incredibly fragrant and delightful, and it made my arms (the one time I was able to use it) happy.

That’s it for now! Here’s hoping their future boxes will keep being amazing. I really enjoyed this one.

Earth Science knocks it out of the park with their new ‘Ceramide Care’ haircare line!

IMG_1531

I have always enjoyed Earth Science’s plant based beauty care products, from their minty face masks, to their serums and enzyme peels.

Imagine my delight, then, to be able to sample most of their new plant based Ceramide Care shampoo and conditioner line!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Transform & revitalize your hair with the science of plant-based ceramides. Our exclusive Ceramide Complex repairs the hair cuticle, restoring moisture for softer, smoother, healthier hair. All-natural, sulfate free & color safe formulas add volume, balance oil or tame curls & frizz.

These shampoos and conditioners more than delivered; I used each type for two weeks at a time to get a complete picture of how each product worked.

I would have to say my favorite duo was the Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner.

…fortified with Rice Protein, which has a special ability to bind with oil. Removes just the right amount without drying or stripping, adding natural shine and highlights to hair. Safe for color treated hair. Sulfate free. All-natural orange-cream grapefruit fragrance. Neutral pH for daily use | Vegan | Gluten Free

My hair felt smooth, and looked the most shiny and revitalized after the two weeks with this particular product. And that is what it is supposed to do – strengthen and add shine.

Included in the ingredients are rice protein and panthenol in order to balance oil & restore radiance. I have combination skin, so my scalp can get flaky if I don’t use the right product!

…smoothes and softens wavy, curly and frizz-prone hair. Infused with a rainforest complex of Shea Butter, Jojoba, Argan, Passionfruit, and Açaí Oils to detangle and deeply hydrate. Leaves hair shiny, silky and manageable. Safe for color treated hair. Sulfate free. All-natural sweet almond fragrance. Neutral pH for daily use | Vegan | Gluten Free

My second favorite was the curl and frizz control duo; I noticed a difference in my hair’s sheen with these babies, too, and loved the scent they emitted in particular.

No flaky scalp after using this duo! Joy!

…adds texture and volume without weighing hair down. Fortified with Golden Barley Protein and Panthenol to strengthen and hydrate. Leaves hair looking and feeling fuller, softer and more radiant. Safe for color treated hair. Sulfate free. All-natural vanilla-ginger cardamom fragrance. Neutral pH for daily use | Vegan

Last but not least, the Volumizing Duo!

I loved the fragrance they used in these, but I did see a little build up after using them for two weeks. I had to use the shampoo twice and scrub hard to make sure I had the shampoo rinsed out properly, so something in it makes it stick to the scalp a little more than the others!

Nevertheless, I love the ingredients and would recommend the Volumizing duo to anyone who wasn’t prone to build up like me.

CeramideCare

All in all, I loved this line, and would recommend it to anyone searching for a solid haircare regimen.

PS: They also have an unscented duo, pictured above, but I have not tried it yet. 🙂

A bit of inspiration

I made this pretty graphic today in order to include a quote I try to live by.

Especially if you live in an industry town, and/or a city where beauty is viewed as currency, it can be difficult to not compare yourself to others.

Just remember, we are all unique. No one else looks exactly like you on this earth. We all have our talents, and our strengths. Celebrate another woman’s beauty and be happy for her.

That’s my inspirational speech for the day!

Review: OSEA – ocean inspired, non-toxic skincare

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Today’s review covers a skincare line that I have been testing out for about two weeks, and have subsequently fallen in love with: OSEA.

OSEA is a family affair, inspired by four generations of women’s long love and respect of the ocean and its healing properties.

The ingredients in this skincare line are as clean as I’ve ever seen, and interestingly enough, OSEA was the first company to sign The Compact for Global Production of Safe Health and Beauty Products which launched the Skin Deep Report.

“I want to leave this planet a cleaner place than when I arrived. (Like being a good house guest) I also want women to be able to use the safest cosmetics possible. Remember 70% of what you put on your body can be absorbed into your bloodstream. I want to raise the consciousness of women so they use safe cosmetics, it’s not just about beauty – it’s about their health.”
– OSEA Founder Jenefer Palmer

What you will always receive from OSEA are the highest quality, naturally-sourced skincare that is vegan, gluten-free and biodegradable. What you will NOT receive are products laden with synthetic fragrances, genetically modified ingredients, petrochemicals, parabens, or sulfates.

Sounds good to me!

Again, I spent two weeks faithfully using OSEA’s skincare morning and night. The following are the products I used:

1. Ocean Cleanser

osea-ocean-cleanser-travel-r1_1

An OSEA classic, Ocean Cleanser is rich in minerals, algae, dermal proteins, vitamins, and mineral salts with a delightful natural fragrance. This multi-tasking hydrating formula effectively removes dirt and impurities, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and energized. Ocean Cleanser is free of chemical surfactants and great for easy makeup removal. pH balanced.

I love that OSEA doesn’t use fragrance; this cleanser was soothing and milky against my skin, which is combination oily/dry skin of confusion. Seriously, my skin is SO sensitive and finicky. It is very difficult to find products that won’t irritate it and cause it to break out.

I use makeup remover wipes first, as most of the jobs that I perform require makeup, and the ocean cleanser did a good job of removing the excess that inevitably is left behind even after a thorough makeup remover wiping.

2. Sea Vitamin Boost

osea-sea-vitamin-boost-travel_nocap-r1_1

This refreshing spray delivers immediate hydration to dry, sun-damaged skin. A potent blend of Pomegranate and Red Wine Extracts gives this moisturizing mist its beautiful rosy color and accounts for its powerful anti-aging effects on skin. Organic Patagonian Gigartina algae stimulates cell renewal while hydrating, soothing, and protecting your skin.

I used this spray as a toner, obviously, and I already need more. I tend to go spray-happy on toner when it is in spray form, but I like it to settle on my skin and don’t like wiping it away.

Some toner dries me out (and I get ugly flashbacks to the time I thought it was a good idea to just use witchhazel as toner), but not this one! Because of the anti-aging ingredients and vitamins, I feel like it just rejuvenated my skin that much more.

I also used this to set my makeup and it worked quite well in that respect, too!

3. Atmosphere Protection Cream

osea-atmosphere-protection-cream-r1_4

A lightweight moisturizer that protects skin from dehydration and damage from environmental aggressors. The super emollient algae base ensures instantaneous absorption while the advanced blend of dermal proteins increases elasticity and leaves a matte, silky finish. An amazing, invisible base for makeup application.

My kingdom for a moisturizer that doesn’t leave me as shiny as a diamond. Oh wait. This moisturizer actually hydrates my skin and does not leave a sheen of failure in its wake! Hurrah!

Seriously though, I love this moisturizer. Algae really agrees with my skin and my tummy, though, so I am certain that has something to do with how well my face has taken to this vial of joy. A+++ moisturizer.

4. White Algae Mask

osea-white-algae-mask-r1

This multi-tasking anti-aging mask corrects uneven skin tone and soothes redness while visibly firming and lifting. Formulated for an immediate, brighter, more luminous complexion.

Last but not least, the white algae mask! I used this once each week, and each time I rinsed off the mask, I saw a huge improvement in my overall complexion.

Again, I really do agree with OSEA’s decision in using ingredients from the sea; algae is such a healing component and works wonders for my skin, at least. (Everyone’s chemistry is different!)

I used the mask again just before writing this review: here are the during and after pics!

And no, there are no filters on either photo.

So what are you waiting for? Try out this amazing, family owned, non-toxic, ocean obsessed skincare line.

Let me know what you think! Does it work for you?

Style snapshot – cantiq LA x Wrenn

IMG_0704

Happy Tuesday!

Here’s some cruelty free, locally made, and stunning style choices for you plant based travelers and fashionistas.

I can’t get enough of these luscious red tones from both cantiq LA and Wrenn.

You all may remember cantiq LA being mentioned in my Valentine’s Day postcantiq LA is a local Los Angeles lingerie brand; the brainchild of designer Chelsea Hughes. Her lingerie is unique, handmade, and comes in a variety of gorgeous colors. I’m obsessed with it!

Chelsea is also releasing a new line of swimwear just in time for those summer pool parties and overseas jaunts that are likely in some of your summer plans. Stay tuned for wet by cantiqLA, coming soon!

The other half of this little collab, Wrenn, is a lovely vegan, cruelty free nail polish brand by Alissa Wrenn Smith. Her “5-free” nail polishes are inspired by the colorful stones featured in the druzy jewelry she makes.

I’m wearing the “Uncorked” color in the photos above.

FullSizeRender 15

What is 5-free nail polish?

5-free means that our polishes are NOT made with 5 of the most common and dangerous ingredients found in nail polishes that have been linked to cause cancer: Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor.

While this does not make 5-free nail polishes “Toxic-Free”, they are a much better alternative to any 3-free or regular nail polishes out there.

For my next pedicure, I’m going to try the “Better off Red” color!

I’m always looking to feature beautiful, unique, vegan/cruelty free brands, and I’m delighted that I can point you all towards small business owners like Chelsea and Alissa who are killing the style game.

Do you have such a brand you’d like to share? Comment below and let me know what I should feature next!

Vegan style snapshot!

Wednesdays are vegan style days! Expect a style post every week.

I try to wear clothing and cosmetics that are cruelty free and vegan exclusively, save for a few pieces from my former life that aren’t worn out yet.

Today’s style post features a few brands that are close to my heart. Check them out and support them if you can!

Love Goodly – Subscribe to a cruelty-free delight

IMG_8437

I’ve tried most of the vegan/cruelty-free subscription boxes on the market thus far. I’ve liked them for the most part, even though I now have an ungodly amount of body oil that I will be using until the end of time.

Love Goodly’s subscription box, however, stands out to me. The box alone is 3x larger than any of its competitors; the samples therein are more often that not, full sized products or at the very least, premium samples.

Thus, I am happy to report that Love Goodly‘s December/January box did not disappoint me.

  1. Deux Lux Sequin Cosmetic Bag in Silver sequins“This fun custom-made cosmetic bag from Deux Lux, a fashionable vegan purse line featured in Oprah and InStyle, has plenty of room for your makeup, lip balm, compact, and more.”

Indeed. I LOVE Deux Lux bags; I have a few of them myself, plus a rather awesome wallet from their line that I’ve carried for over a year. This sequined cosmetic bag is super cute, with a lining that is luxurious to the touch. I’m a fan. Though I note that the sequins might look a bit ratty if they snag anything. Will have to see.

  2. Lippy Girl Vegocentric Lipstick in ‘Schmoopy’“Lippy Girl Makeup’s Vegocentric lipstick line is certified vegan. Made with organic and wildcrafted natural oils and waxes and only natural mineral pigments, they are 100% vegan, bee-free, gluten free, and chemical free. Schmoopy is their bestselling dusty rose color.”

I have a few lipsticks and a wonderful lip gloss from Lippy Girl, and I like them. I didn’t have this color though, so that was lucky! My only warning with this brand is to keep in a cool space, or even refrigerate your lipsticks if you are in a very hot climate. They tend to melt and I’ve had an entirely new lipstick just snap in half when the tiniest bit of pressure was applied. (Use a lip brush on the remnants if this unfortunate occurrence does happen! I didn’t throw it away, of course.)

  3. hellomellow Balance Body Butter“Luxuriate in all natural, hand-crafted body butter that is densely packed with pure avocado and mango butter scented with essential oils. Moisturizing with this body butter leaves you with incredibly soft, silky skin.”

I would like the world to know that I didn’t even try this first; my mom snatched it and began rubbing it on immediately. Then my grandmother asked to try some, and of course I let her. My mom gushed over it right away, and that’s high praise. My mom is the queen of lotions and potions. If she endorses it, I’m on board.

After I did try it, I saw what she meant. The body butter rubs in very easily and the essential oils produce a heaven-scent aroma (see what I did there.)

  4. Auromere Ayurvedic Toothpaste – Travel Size

“Clean your teeth and freshen your breath with all-natural botanical extracts and essential oils. Auromere Toothpaste contains no flouride, gluten, artificial sweeteners…dyes, or harsh chemicals commonly found in many toothpastes.” The toothpaste is vegan as well! Hooray!I’m always on the lookout for little travel toothpastes I can pop into my travel bag. They don’t make many cruelty free, effective toothpastes that can be brought onto a plane with little effort. Can’t wait to try this one on my next jaunt!

  5. Hello Gorgeous Toothbrush“PLUS ULTRA’s bamboo toothbrush is an eco-friendly alternative to plastic toothbrushes. The bristle heads feature a wave shaped design that cleans difficult to reach areas with soft, nylon bristles that gently massage the gums.”

I love a bamboo toothbrush! Any effort to stave off the waste that plastic products create is ok by me. I’ve tried a few other bamboo toothbrushes in my day, but I am eager to see how this one feels. I will report back after exhausting my current toothbrush.

And there you have it! Until the next box!

I’m going to go fill up my Deux Lux cosmetic bag now.
