A hidden gem in Las Vegas – Eatt Gourmet Bistro

Sooo the title pretty much says it all. Eatt is an unassuming little location on Sahara Ave in Las Vegas, and I hadn’t heard a thing about it until my boyfriend brought me there for a surprise dinner (I usually select where we eat but hey, sometimes it’s nice to be surprised!).

We had to wait a little bit for a party who had grown roots into their booth, but when we finally sat and asked for the vegan tasting course we had seen on their menu, we were not prepared for such flavors.

My boyfriend remarked that Eatt had a Michelin star, so I assumed it would be good. IT WAS PHENOMENAL.

The head chef was away that night, but sous chef Aymeric Delouis hit this one out of the park.

Behold, our Michelin star vegan feast. Go eat everything there at your earliest convenience; I couldn’t get enough of the flavors.

EVXO x The Plantbased Jetsetter

IMG_4860.JPG

So EVXO was good enough to send me some vegan, cruelty free makeup to try, and I am OBSESSED.

This makeup is now a staple in my makeup bag and travels with me everywhere. I was given brow pomade, two creamy lipsticks, and the best foundation ever (which subsequently smells like some sort of delicious cookie) to try.

Here are a few looks I tried with these products; I found that they all applied quite even and smooth; the brow pomade took a few applications to get right because my brows are light, but that was mostly user error from me not using the right brush.

Check out my looks and go pick up these products – I couldn’t give a more glowing (see what I did there) recommendation!!

Foundation color: Bisque
Lipsticks: Temptress and Coral Kisses
Brow Pomade: Light

Vegan joy at SW Steakhouse

Maitake mushroom plate of joy

So I had dinner at SW Steakhouse at the Wynn a few nights ago and was quite impressed with their vegan selections.

This was one of the few restaurants at the Wynn and Encore I hadn’t had the chance to try yet (both hotels have killer vegan options at all restaurants).

OBSERVE THE MAJESTY.

Review – Purple Frog ‘aromatheraputic patches’

IMG_3880.PNG

Who doesn’t love a good whiff of essential oil? I sure do. It can be inconvenient, however, to lug around a diffuser on the go.

Enter Purple Frog aromatheraputic patches! They are the world’s only non-toxic, personal air fresheners, utilizing only the highest quality organic essential oil scents.

You can literally stick these little patches anywhere; (they are activated when you pop the little sac inside of them), and I set out to do just that!

I was particularly obsessed with the ‘air awakening‘ patches and, being the corporate flight attendant that I am, stuck them around my plane in strategic locations to make my passengers’ ride a more pleasant experience.

(I also put a few on my pilot’s arm rests; they were confused at first but warmed up to them. I am forever introducing them to new products like these. They are good sports!)

I also put a few next to the kitchen sink in my home so I could enjoy the fresh peppermint and eucalyptus aromas there as well!

IMG_3877

As for the ‘snooze button‘ patches, I keep one on the corner of my bedside table and it has actually improved my sleep! I drift off with the smell of lavender and chamomile and it is very helpful to have these on the road, especially when we are hopping through different time zones and our sleep schedule is wonky.

IMG_3878

Lastly, the lemongrass and citronella oil ‘insect shielder‘ patches are doing a good job of guarding my little herb garden here at home. (I also put one of these on the plane when we landed and had a bunch of mosquitos I had to shoo away. They’re super effective!)

IMG_3875

I would recommend all three of these patches, at home or on the go! They smell amazing and they do what they claim to do. That can be a rare find.

Thanks, Purple Frog!

Review – Vegan Cuts Beauty Box!

IMG_2739

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today I am reviewing one of Vegan Cuts’ monthly beauty boxes – and let me tell you, this was no hardship.

I used to get their monthly boxes, and to be honest, I had tapered off a while back after amassing a small army of teeny-tiny beauty oil samples and single serving wipes.

It looks like they rethought their strategy, however, because this loot was choice, and I’m delighted with the contents.

  1. Terre mère blush brush – The crown jewel in this loot for me – I am always delighted to receive new cruelty free, vegan brushes, and this one is soft, gentle on the face, and lovely to look at!
  2. everclēn facial toner – A full sized toner!? Someone pinch me. Toner is the beauty product that I go through the most, and I am picky about the toners I put on my face. This fragrance free beauty was just the ticket. I am still using it and I love the results!
  3. Medusa’s Makeup bronzer – This bronzer is a little dark for me, so I have to blend vigorously and use it in a more strategic way. It is perfect for light contouring, though! I used the blush brush in tandem with this bronzer and I wasn’t mad at the results.
  4. The Granola Goat face serum – I was bummed that there was so little of this serum (I get it, serum is expensive!) simply because I loved it so much! There are a lot of premium oils in here, including red raspberry seed oil, sea buckthorn berry oil,
    Frankincense, helichrysum, lavender, myrrh, rose, and sandalwood essential oils as well. I am considering grabbing a full size because my face wants more!
  5. Molly Rose Balms Exfoliating body scrub in grapefruit basil – This is much more reminiscent of my past Vegan Cuts boxes, size-wise. The scrub is lovely, but I hate these sample sizes! I would much rather cut out two sample sizes for one full size item I can enjoy and really try out. That said, the scrub is incredibly fragrant and delightful, and it made my arms (the one time I was able to use it) happy.

That’s it for now! Here’s hoping their future boxes will keep being amazing. I really enjoyed this one.

Review – Navitas superfood bars!

IMG_1275

My love for everything Navitas is well known and documented. Imagine my joy, then, when as a Navitas Insider I was able to try these amazing superfood bars and stuff them in my face earlier than most people were able to!

Alas, I do not partake in honey, so for two out of these four bars I relied on an outside opinion to review, but I can safely say that the Maca Maple bar is a game changer.

FullSizeRender 18

Navitas Naturals Maca Maple Superfood+ Snack Bars are made from nine of the most nutrient-dense functional superfoods including cashews, almonds, maca, sunflower seeds, cacao nibs, quinoa, amaranth, maple syrup and lucuma.

Why not start with my favorite?

I ate this bar during a long flight when my energy was running low, and not only did the flavors compliment each other perfectly, but I perked right up on account of the right amount of sugars paired with superfoods.

I would eat one of these guys every day if I could!

FullSizeRender 20

Navitas Naturals Cacao Cranberry Superfood+ Snack Bars are made from seven of the most nutrient-dense functional superfoods including cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, cacao beans & nibs, quinoa and cacao powder.

I took this bar on a 10 mile hike and scarfed it halfway through; the energy it provided kept me going until dinner!

The flavors are nicely balanced; I don’t usually prefer fruit with my chocolate, but the cranberry was subtle enough that I didn’t have cause for complaint.

Both the hemp peanut and goji acai bars contain honey, which I do not eat, so a good friend of mine took on the task of trying these out.

She tried them out whilst biking, and also after an intense workout. For those of you who do eat honey, my friend claims that the flavors are wonderful (especially the hemp peanut), and that they gave her a boost in energy and mood.

I’m so happy that the bar industry is moving away from processed ingredients and incorporating so many more healthy options.

Navitas hits it out of the park once more!

Earth Science knocks it out of the park with their new ‘Ceramide Care’ haircare line!

IMG_1531
Photo Credit: Earth Science

I have always enjoyed Earth Science’s plant based beauty care products, from their minty face masks, to their serums and enzyme peels.

Imagine my delight, then, to be able to sample most of their new plant based Ceramide Care shampoo and conditioner line!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Transform & revitalize your hair with the science of plant-based ceramides. Our exclusive Ceramide Complex repairs the hair cuticle, restoring moisture for softer, smoother, healthier hair. All-natural, sulfate free & color safe formulas add volume, balance oil or tame curls & frizz.

These shampoos and conditioners more than delivered; I used each type for two weeks at a time to get a complete picture of how each product worked.

I would have to say my favorite duo was the Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner.

IMG_1344

…fortified with Rice Protein, which has a special ability to bind with oil. Removes just the right amount without drying or stripping, adding natural shine and highlights to hair. Safe for color treated hair. Sulfate free. All-natural orange-cream grapefruit fragrance. Neutral pH for daily use | Vegan | Gluten Free

My hair felt smooth, and looked the most shiny and revitalized after the two weeks with this particular product. And that is what it is supposed to do – strengthen and add shine.

Included in the ingredients are rice protein and panthenol in order to balance oil & restore radiance. I have combination skin, so my scalp can get flaky if I don’t use the right product!

…smoothes and softens wavy, curly and frizz-prone hair. Infused with a rainforest complex of Shea Butter, Jojoba, Argan, Passionfruit, and Açaí Oils to detangle and deeply hydrate. Leaves hair shiny, silky and manageable. Safe for color treated hair. Sulfate free. All-natural sweet almond fragrance. Neutral pH for daily use | Vegan | Gluten Free

My second favorite was the curl and frizz control duo; I noticed a difference in my hair’s sheen with these babies, too, and loved the scent they emitted in particular.

No flaky scalp after using this duo! Joy!

…adds texture and volume without weighing hair down. Fortified with Golden Barley Protein and Panthenol to strengthen and hydrate. Leaves hair looking and feeling fuller, softer and more radiant. Safe for color treated hair. Sulfate free. All-natural vanilla-ginger cardamom fragrance. Neutral pH for daily use | Vegan

Last but not least, the Volumizing Duo!

I loved the fragrance they used in these, but I did see a little build up after using them for two weeks. I had to use the shampoo twice and scrub hard to make sure I had the shampoo rinsed out properly, so something in it makes it stick to the scalp a little more than the others!

Nevertheless, I love the ingredients and would recommend the Volumizing duo to anyone who wasn’t prone to build up like me.

CeramideCare

All in all, I loved this line, and would recommend it to anyone searching for a solid haircare regimen.

PS: They also have an unscented duo, pictured above, but I have not tried it yet. 🙂

Style snapshot – cantiq LA x Wrenn

IMG_0704

Happy Tuesday!

Here’s some cruelty free, locally made, and stunning style choices for you plant based travelers and fashionistas.

I can’t get enough of these luscious red tones from both cantiq LA and Wrenn.

You all may remember cantiq LA being mentioned in my Valentine’s Day postcantiq LA is a local Los Angeles lingerie brand; the brainchild of designer Chelsea Hughes. Her lingerie is unique, handmade, and comes in a variety of gorgeous colors. I’m obsessed with it!

Chelsea is also releasing a new line of swimwear just in time for those summer pool parties and overseas jaunts that are likely in some of your summer plans. Stay tuned for wet by cantiqLA, coming soon!

IMG_0703

The other half of this little collab, Wrenn, is a lovely vegan, cruelty free nail polish brand by Alissa Wrenn Smith. Her “5-free” nail polishes are inspired by the colorful stones featured in the druzy jewelry she makes.

I’m wearing the “Uncorked” color in the photos above.

FullSizeRender 15

What is 5-free nail polish?

5-free means that our polishes are NOT made with 5 of the most common and dangerous ingredients found in nail polishes that have been linked to cause cancer: Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor.

While this does not make 5-free nail polishes “Toxic-Free”, they are a much better alternative to any 3-free or regular nail polishes out there.

For my next pedicure, I’m going to try the “Better off Red” color!

I’m always looking to feature beautiful, unique, vegan/cruelty free brands, and I’m delighted that I can point you all towards small business owners like Chelsea and Alissa who are killing the style game.

Do you have such a brand you’d like to share? Comment below and let me know what I should feature next!

A plantbased birthday!

It was my 30th birthday this Monday and I decided to go all out, drive to Los Angeles, and have an actual birthday weekend!

Many plantbased shenanigans ensued.

Friday night I joined my LA girl cult at Pour Vous, a lovely little French-themed speakeasy that features delicious champagne, vegan crepes (if you ask for them), and aerial performers.

IMG_9024

Here I am sipping champagne at Pour Vous in a floral jumpsuit I snagged on a whim. Jumpsuits don’t usually fit me because I am so tall, but this one miraculously did! It’s a birthday miracle!

IMG_9004

My lovely friend Annaliese is the driving force behind a lot of the LA-based events I attend, and arranged for the yummy bday champagne. Hooray!

~~~~~~~~
Saturday I gathered a group of lovely ladies (and one guy) and headed over to the ever-delicious Sun Cafe in Studio City. I had been craving their vegan mac n’ cheese for weeks, and as usual, it did not disappoint. I even added the tempeh bacon option because it’s my birthday, damn it, and I wanted to be in a food coma.
IMG_9030
They serve it in a cast iron pan. Look at it. I want another one right now. It was so good.
As usual, my friends knew me well and brought me champagne, SouthWest gift cards, and general bday cheer. I waddled home sated and happy.
~~~~~~~

Sunday was family bday and the Superbowl; I spent the morning preparing food with my mom, wherein I made my famous vegan deviled tomatoes (recipe here)!

IMG_9043

Mmmm.

I don’t really care about the actual Superbowl, but it was nice to hang out with my family and some of my best friends; my lovely bff Victoria brought me a bouquet filled with money folded into origami shapes, which was the best thing ever.

IMG_9049

And my Dad got me some junmai daiginjo sake, which is my favorite type of sake (the rice is very finely polished and it tastes like rainbows.)

IMG_9041

~~~~~
On my actual birthday (Monday), I drove home to Vegas and went out to dinner at Lakeside, one of the many restaurants at the Wynn that offer delicious gourmet vegan options.
IMG_9058
Eggplant dish of the gods – this melted in my mouth and I couldn’t get enough of it.
IMG_9059
Truffle arancini – Also melted in the mouth and I almost ordered another plate of them, but I knew that would fill me up too much.
IMG_9098
Vegan crab cakes – Mmmmm. I crushed this plate. The flavors used here are phenomenal and would satisfy even the most grumpy food critic.
~~~~~~

All in all, it was an amazing birthday!! Below are some more of the cruelty free, vegan presents I received from my thoughtful friends.

FullSizeRender 7

The limited edition Glitter Bunny clutch from Gunas (from my bff bizarro-sai) – I’m obsessed. This is such a lovely little clutch and I am going to be extra careful with it. No drunken nights out for you, little clutch!

FullSizeRender 5

My brother and sister in law sent me these vegan cookbooks! Oh She Glows is one of my favorite blogs of all time, and Miyoko Schinner‘s cuisine is everything.

FullSizeRender 6

Last but not least – my friend Charity got me a vegan set of bath bombs, lotion bars, and soaps from Lush!
BEST. BIRTHDAY. EVER.

Vegan style snapshot!

Wednesdays are vegan style days! Expect a style post every week.

I try to wear clothing and cosmetics that are cruelty free and vegan exclusively, save for a few pieces from my former life that aren’t worn out yet.

Today’s style post features a few brands that are close to my heart. Check them out and support them if you can!
