EVXO x The Plantbased Jetsetter

IMG_4860.JPG

So EVXO was good enough to send me some vegan, cruelty free makeup to try, and I am OBSESSED.

This makeup is now a staple in my makeup bag and travels with me everywhere. I was given brow pomade, two creamy lipsticks, and the best foundation ever (which subsequently smells like some sort of delicious cookie) to try.

Here are a few looks I tried with these products; I found that they all applied quite even and smooth; the brow pomade took a few applications to get right because my brows are light, but that was mostly user error from me not using the right brush.

Check out my looks and go pick up these products – I couldn’t give a more glowing (see what I did there) recommendation!!

Foundation color: Bisque
Lipsticks: Temptress and Coral Kisses
Brow Pomade: Light

FoodFlo – a vegan delivery service that slays!

Sooo I had the wonderful opportunity to try a subscription to FoodFlo – a vegan food delivery service that delivers to CA, NV, and AZ!

FoodFlo boasts delicious, whole food plant based recipes via French gourmet chef Florence Bertheau.

For more than 20 years, chef Flo cooked for her many students and celebrity clients the way she had learned in her native France, rich in butter and creamy sauces, heavy on meats, eggs and dairy. Then a paradigm shift happened. She began to see how certain foods had a profoundly positive effect on the health of her autistic daughter and on Flo herself. She created her own food pyramid based on three principles: Vegan, gluten-free and alkaline pH-balanced. Menus began evolving. Flo started using dense plant-based hypo-allergenic foods such as sprouted grains, nuts, vegetarian proteins, fresh greens and produce from local farms.

Flo’s journey of ‘health through food’ balances her company values of fresh and raw food nutrition with social and environmental consciousness; being aware of how what we eat affects the earth and all animals that live on it. Purchasing seasonal and local, she is able to provide the best quality products that are cost efficient, reduce the carbon footprint, all cooked with the intention for your good health.

I tried a week’s worth of menu items, and felt absolutely amazing afterwards. The meals were hearty but not heavy, and all of the ingredients were incredibly fresh. I especially enjoyed their handmade snack bars, pictured above!

They packed everything to perfection, as well – the meals came cold and fresh and ready to go. I was very impressed.

I highly recommend this service, especially if you don’t have time to meal prep during the week! You’ll have all the benefits of an organic, gluten-free vegan chef for a great price and a minimum of fuss.

Thanks for the trial, FoodFlo! You have a fan in me. 🙂

Review: Vegan Cuts tea box!

IMG_0901

Tea! Tea for all.

I love tea. I drink at least a cup a day, and I carry little tea bags with me in my purse just in case.

Lucky for me, then, that Vegan Cuts had a limited edition Tea Box that featured five different flavors of organic, vegan, fair trade tea that I had never tried before! (Plus a delicious Nii bar and a rad recycled mug).

Some of the brands were familiar to me, but I had never tried the flavors that arrived. I enlisted help from my lovely friend Rita, a woman with opinions, and we taste tested these flavors with vigor!

1. Numi Turmeric Tea – Three Roots

Blending three organic roots (earthy turmeric, spicy ginger, and sweet licorice), Three Roots Turmeric Tea transports your senses to an exotic spice market. As the complexity of the roots unfolds, the flavors of organic rose bring mental clarity, grounding and centering the spirit.

Bring fresh water to a boil and pour over a bag of Three Roots. Steep 8-10 minutes while breathing deeply and pondering positive thoughts. Healthful turmeric revitalizes the mind and balances the body.

We decided to start out with some anti-inflammatory goodness. I have had Numi tea before; they are one of my favorite brands, so I expected good things.

I wasn’t disappointed. We let the tea steep for 8 minutes and found it to be much more mild than we were expecting.

It was smooth; we tasted hints of sweetness and found it to be a rather earthy experience. I didn’t taste any ginger at all. A win for me – a ‘meh’ for Rita.

2. Miracle Tree – Moringa Organic Tea (Strawberry)

This subtly aromatic strawberry infusion blends an energetic fruity flavor with Moringa dried leaves for a tasty and refreshing drink. Our tea is unique – it’s made of organic Moringa! We source our artisan tea from our own Moringa plantations in Sri Lanka. Moringa leaves contain over 90 nutrients – including 47 Antioxidants, 25 Vitamins & Minerals, and All 8 essential Amino Acids. Our Moringa is 100% vegan, gluten-free, Non-GMO, ethically sourced, and completely caffeine-free!

“Holy shit that’s strawberry” was my comment when we gave this tea a sniff.

We expected the flavor to be overwhelming on account of the smell, but it wasn’t. The flavor wasn’t artificial tasting at all, but much more subtle than the smell.

Overall an earthy strawberry flavor that both Rita and I enjoyed. I would say out of all of them, however, this was my least favorite if I had to pick one, simply because I’m not the hugest fan of fruity tea.

3. Choice Organic Teas – Mango Black

Set your course for paradise with this tempting black tea paired with a touch of tropical fruit. Smooth Ceylon and bold Indian black teas mingle with notes of mango evoking the aroma and flavor of fresh cut fruit. A hint of Sumatran vanilla imparts a subtle sweetness to this luscious tea that also satisfies when served over ice.

Rita loved this one; she’s a black tea drinker. I didn’t mind it either, as the mango flavor wasn’t too pronounced or sweet. The black tea tempers the fruity flavor, I find.

The smell was fragrant and pleasant, and the tea itself was strong but not overpowering like some black teas can be.

4. Pukka – Licorice & Cinnamon

Mmm. This lovely tea smelled nostalgic, like a gingerbread dessert.

It didn’t taste like it smelled however. The licorice flavor thankfully wasn’t strong, and the cinnamon was prominent and went down very smooth.

This is a savory, cold weather sort of tea. Curl up when it’s raining and cold with a cup of this and you will be very happy. Steep for 8-10 minutes.

5. Yogi tea – Chai Rooibos

Evoke the beauty of South Africa with our delicious all organic Chai Rooibos—a creative twist on traditional chai. Bask in the spicy warmth of Indian chai with caffeine-free Organic Rooibos, the red tea of South Africa. Enjoyed for centuries by the people of the Western Cape of South Africa, Rooibos supplies antioxidants which can help neutralize free radicals. A traditional Ayurvedic combination of Cardamom, Cinnamon and Clove combine to add warmth and intriguing flavor. Enjoy Chai Rooibos any time of day for an enchanting and delicious cup of tea.

To get the most out of every cup, bring water to boiling and steep 5 to 10 minutes. For a stronger tea, use 2 tea bags. Add your favorite sweetener and milk or milk substitute.

I love a chai tea. This one was no exception.

The chai spice smell was prominent (in a good way), the tea was savory, and not sweet.

Both Rita and I loved this one, too. We steeped it for about 6 minutes.

Honorable mentions to the lovely Nii bar and Aladdin recycled mug that came in the tea box as well! I have taken my tea to work in the Aladdin mug several times and it has worked quite well.

The Nii bar was scarfed when it arrived here. 🙂

Yum! Snag a Vegan Cuts tea box today – they are going quick!

Product Review: Marquis Organic Energy

DSC_0028-mixedcase-1-510x338

I’ve been a fan of Marquis Organic Energy drinks for a while; I remember seeing and tasting them at last year’s Natural Products Expo West, and liking what I drank.

Since then, they’ve gone through a rebranding of their packaging, which I like. And the flavors remain quite good, for energy drinks! The quality of ingredients and the vitamin blend they add to the beverage is what I’m most impressed with, however. (Also, the fact that Marquis drinks are zero calories is a nice bonus.)

They are vegan certified, as well as organic, nonGMO verified, gluten free, and sweetened with organic stevia extract.

Flavor profile:

Super Berry: The is the sweetest flavor of the three; it was also my least favorite. I think it would be better as a cocktail mixer than a stand alone drink. Although I’d certainly down it in a pinch if I needed some energy!

Mango Ginger: Hands down my favorite flavor. Anything ginger I’m on board with; I could drink a case of these happily (and then probably run around in circles for an hour.)

Citrus Lime: I enjoyed this flavor too; the stevia is more pronounced in this flavor, however, so for those stevia haters (of which I know there are many), I would stick with the Mango Ginger! Ginger flavor tends to mellow out stevia, I have found. I personally don’t mind stevia. 🙂

I would definitely recommend snagging some of these drinks, especially if you need some organic energy to get you through your day! The caffeine content isn’t staggering, and they use organic yerba maté and green tea as the energy source. The B vitamin blend will help your mood as well.

Thumbs up from me!
