A hidden gem in Las Vegas – Eatt Gourmet Bistro

Sooo the title pretty much says it all. Eatt is an unassuming little location on Sahara Ave in Las Vegas, and I hadn’t heard a thing about it until my boyfriend brought me there for a surprise dinner (I usually select where we eat but hey, sometimes it’s nice to be surprised!).

We had to wait a little bit for a party who had grown roots into their booth, but when we finally sat and asked for the vegan tasting course we had seen on their menu, we were not prepared for such flavors.

My boyfriend remarked that Eatt had a Michelin star, so I assumed it would be good. IT WAS PHENOMENAL.

The head chef was away that night, but sous chef Aymeric Delouis hit this one out of the park.

Behold, our Michelin star vegan feast. Go eat everything there at your earliest convenience; I couldn’t get enough of the flavors.

Follow Your Heart x The Plantbased Jetsetter – Beyond Burger sammich!

IMG_4110

Has everyone tried the Beyond Burger yet? I’ll wait. Good. ISN’T IT DELICIOUS?!

I decided to make a summer burger sammich with my Follow Your Heart haul – here’s the recipe for this yummy bbq treat!

Ingredients:

IMG_4107

  • Follow Your Heart Gluten Free Millet bread – 2 slices
  • Follow Your Heart American cheese – 1 slice
  • Follow Your Heart Pepperjack cheese – 1 slice
  • 1 romaine tomato – sliced
  • Follow Your Heart Chipotle Vegenaise – 1 tsp
  • Yellow mustard – 1 tsp
  • Organic ketchup – 1tsp
  • Follow Your Heart Vegenaise – tsp
  • Organic home grown micro greens – 1 pinch
  • Coconut oil spray
  • Salt – 1 pinch
  • Cayenne pepper – 1 pinch
  • Garlic Salt – 1 pinch
  • Beyond Burger – 1 burger

I used my little George Foreman grill to grill the Beyond Burger; spray the coconut oil on both sides and season the burger with salt, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper before placing on the hot grill. Check periodically, but it should take about 10 minutes or so to be cooked all the way through.

Open grill and place the cheese on top of the burger, letting it slightly melt onto the patty. Then, assemble the sammich to your satisfaction! You can see my order in the photo above, but it is up to you to build the burger sammich to your satisfaction.

Stuff in your face, and enjoy!!

Chica impresses!!

Butter lettuce salad

So the Venetian and the Palazzo hotels in Las Vegas aren’t really known for their vegan options or attention to dietary restrictions (though they can be found!), but I was pleasantly surprised by the service and the vegan options at Chica, a Latin-fusion restaurant that recently replaced DB Brasserie in the Venetian.

Platanos, guacamole, tortilla chips, and arepas!

The servers were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and knew exactly what to omit or substitute. What they didn’t know for sure (due to changing menu items), they double checked.

Rainbow cauliflower

Go check out this beautiful restaurant! The food, music, and decor are all a total hit.

Five stars from this Plantbased Jetsetter!

Henry, my roomate’s dog, approves this haul

Summer is here with a bang, especially in Vegas, with temperatures soaring and making us all hide inside where the A/C is on full blast. (At least I am hiding inside with the A/C on full blast.)

That shouldn’t put a damper on anyone’s fun, however! There are pool parties with misters and cabanas to attend, indoor activities to explore, and amazing food to nom.

Speaking of amazing food, Follow Your Heart, one of my favorite vegan companies, sent me a spectacular haul of gluten-free tortillas, breads, vegan cheeses, and spreads to make summer sandwich and wrap recipes to my hearts’ content. I have already formulated a few recipes, the first to come shortly!

Stay tuned. <3

Vegan joy at SW Steakhouse

Maitake mushroom plate of joy

So I had dinner at SW Steakhouse at the Wynn a few nights ago and was quite impressed with their vegan selections.

This was one of the few restaurants at the Wynn and Encore I hadn’t had the chance to try yet (both hotels have killer vegan options at all restaurants).

OBSERVE THE MAJESTY.

Review – Navitas superfood bars!

IMG_1275

My love for everything Navitas is well known and documented. Imagine my joy, then, when as a Navitas Insider I was able to try these amazing superfood bars and stuff them in my face earlier than most people were able to!

Alas, I do not partake in honey, so for two out of these four bars I relied on an outside opinion to review, but I can safely say that the Maca Maple bar is a game changer.

Navitas Naturals Maca Maple Superfood+ Snack Bars are made from nine of the most nutrient-dense functional superfoods including cashews, almonds, maca, sunflower seeds, cacao nibs, quinoa, amaranth, maple syrup and lucuma.

Why not start with my favorite?

I ate this bar during a long flight when my energy was running low, and not only did the flavors compliment each other perfectly, but I perked right up on account of the right amount of sugars paired with superfoods.

I would eat one of these guys every day if I could!

Navitas Naturals Cacao Cranberry Superfood+ Snack Bars are made from seven of the most nutrient-dense functional superfoods including cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, cacao beans & nibs, quinoa and cacao powder.

I took this bar on a 10 mile hike and scarfed it halfway through; the energy it provided kept me going until dinner!

The flavors are nicely balanced; I don’t usually prefer fruit with my chocolate, but the cranberry was subtle enough that I didn’t have cause for complaint.

Both the hemp peanut and goji acai bars contain honey, which I do not eat, so a good friend of mine took on the task of trying these out.

She tried them out whilst biking, and also after an intense workout. For those of you who do eat honey, my friend claims that the flavors are wonderful (especially the hemp peanut), and that they gave her a boost in energy and mood.

I’m so happy that the bar industry is moving away from processed ingredients and incorporating so many more healthy options.

Navitas hits it out of the park once more!

Review: Vegan Cuts tea box!

IMG_0901

Tea! Tea for all.

I love tea. I drink at least a cup a day, and I carry little tea bags with me in my purse just in case.

Lucky for me, then, that Vegan Cuts had a limited edition Tea Box that featured five different flavors of organic, vegan, fair trade tea that I had never tried before! (Plus a delicious Nii bar and a rad recycled mug).

IMG_0260-2

Some of the brands were familiar to me, but I had never tried the flavors that arrived. I enlisted help from my lovely friend Rita, a woman with opinions, and we taste tested these flavors with vigor!

1. Numi Turmeric Tea – Three Roots

Blending three organic roots (earthy turmeric, spicy ginger, and sweet licorice), Three Roots Turmeric Tea transports your senses to an exotic spice market. As the complexity of the roots unfolds, the flavors of organic rose bring mental clarity, grounding and centering the spirit.

Bring fresh water to a boil and pour over a bag of Three Roots. Steep 8-10 minutes while breathing deeply and pondering positive thoughts. Healthful turmeric revitalizes the mind and balances the body.

We decided to start out with some anti-inflammatory goodness. I have had Numi tea before; they are one of my favorite brands, so I expected good things.

I wasn’t disappointed. We let the tea steep for 8 minutes and found it to be much more mild than we were expecting.

It was smooth; we tasted hints of sweetness and found it to be a rather earthy experience. I didn’t taste any ginger at all. A win for me – a ‘meh’ for Rita.

2. Miracle Tree – Moringa Organic Tea (Strawberry)

This subtly aromatic strawberry infusion blends an energetic fruity flavor with Moringa dried leaves for a tasty and refreshing drink. Our tea is unique – it’s made of organic Moringa! We source our artisan tea from our own Moringa plantations in Sri Lanka. Moringa leaves contain over 90 nutrients – including 47 Antioxidants, 25 Vitamins & Minerals, and All 8 essential Amino Acids. Our Moringa is 100% vegan, gluten-free, Non-GMO, ethically sourced, and completely caffeine-free!

“Holy shit that’s strawberry” was my comment when we gave this tea a sniff.

We expected the flavor to be overwhelming on account of the smell, but it wasn’t. The flavor wasn’t artificial tasting at all, but much more subtle than the smell.

Overall an earthy strawberry flavor that both Rita and I enjoyed. I would say out of all of them, however, this was my least favorite if I had to pick one, simply because I’m not the hugest fan of fruity tea.

3. Choice Organic Teas – Mango Black

Set your course for paradise with this tempting black tea paired with a touch of tropical fruit. Smooth Ceylon and bold Indian black teas mingle with notes of mango evoking the aroma and flavor of fresh cut fruit. A hint of Sumatran vanilla imparts a subtle sweetness to this luscious tea that also satisfies when served over ice.

Rita loved this one; she’s a black tea drinker. I didn’t mind it either, as the mango flavor wasn’t too pronounced or sweet. The black tea tempers the fruity flavor, I find.

The smell was fragrant and pleasant, and the tea itself was strong but not overpowering like some black teas can be.

4. Pukka – Licorice & Cinnamon

Mmm. This lovely tea smelled nostalgic, like a gingerbread dessert.

It didn’t taste like it smelled however. The licorice flavor thankfully wasn’t strong, and the cinnamon was prominent and went down very smooth.

This is a savory, cold weather sort of tea. Curl up when it’s raining and cold with a cup of this and you will be very happy. Steep for 8-10 minutes.

5. Yogi tea – Chai Rooibos

Evoke the beauty of South Africa with our delicious all organic Chai Rooibos—a creative twist on traditional chai. Bask in the spicy warmth of Indian chai with caffeine-free Organic Rooibos, the red tea of South Africa. Enjoyed for centuries by the people of the Western Cape of South Africa, Rooibos supplies antioxidants which can help neutralize free radicals. A traditional Ayurvedic combination of Cardamom, Cinnamon and Clove combine to add warmth and intriguing flavor. Enjoy Chai Rooibos any time of day for an enchanting and delicious cup of tea.

To get the most out of every cup, bring water to boiling and steep 5 to 10 minutes. For a stronger tea, use 2 tea bags. Add your favorite sweetener and milk or milk substitute.

I love a chai tea. This one was no exception.

The chai spice smell was prominent (in a good way), the tea was savory, and not sweet.

Both Rita and I loved this one, too. We steeped it for about 6 minutes.

Honorable mentions to the lovely Nii bar and Aladdin recycled mug that came in the tea box as well! I have taken my tea to work in the Aladdin mug several times and it has worked quite well.

The Nii bar was scarfed when it arrived here. 🙂

Yum! Snag a Vegan Cuts tea box today – they are going quick!
